NAIROBI (KEN): Mary Keitany, the world marathon record-holder for women-only races, has urged authorities in her country to step up their anti-doping efforts. The former world marathon and multiple World Marathon Majors winner told the-star.co.ke: “I am telling our coaches and managers to please help fight doping. Our country risks being banned if this vice continues.” She called for monitoring of chemists and pharmacies and action against those found selling banned substances.
RunBlogRun opines: Mary Keitany is a trail blazer. She caught me a few years ago at London presser. She was not happy that there was no women’s equivalent in 2 hour marathon attempt by Nike. While her sponsor is adidas, she wants women’s running to get the same respect. She does interviews better and better each year. Her racing in London last year was gutty, like an opera, and she obviously learned from teh experience.
