Prescod vs Hughes
BIRMINGHAM (GBR): Nearly all of Britain’s top athletes will be in action at the Muller British Championships this weekend, which doubles as the trial for the Europeans, offering automatic selection for top-twos. The sprints look particularly hot as Dina Asher-Smith focuses only on the 100m following her recent sub-11 clockings. Fellow recent DL winner Reece Prescod heads the men’s short sprint, facing 9.91 man Zharnel Hughes, who opts out of the 200m, plus CJ Ujah and Oji Edoburun. The 200m features five of the top 13 in Europe, including Jodie Williams, Bianca Williams and Beth Dobbin, while Adam Gemili and Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake lead the 200m line-up. In the men’s 800m, although world fourth-placer Kyle Langford is missing, Andrew Osagie, Jamie Webb, Elliot Giles, Guy Learmonth and Daniel Rowden all have the European standard and will be competing. In the 1500m, Charlie Grice goes against Jake Wightman, Chris O’Hare and Josh Kerr. All the big names in the women’s long jump are present in Shara Proctor, Lorraine Ugen and Jazmin Sawyers. Holly Bradshaw goes against recent UK junior record-setter Molly Caudery in the pole vault. Britain’s top two hammer throwers, Sophie Hitchon and Nick Miller, head their events, while heptathletes Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Morgan Lake go in the high jump. World 60m hurdles champion Andrew Pozzi makes an appearance in the 110m event.
