Last October 29, I watched Vivian Cheruiyot battle the winds of Frankfurt, Germany. Somehow, Vivian won and even scored a small personal best. After her second 2:23 marathon, some thought that Vivian had met her match. Au contraire, mes amis. This past April 22, I watched Vivian Cheruiyot, courtesy of BBC TV, win her first Virgin Money London Marathon.
The Kenyan pocket rocket, Vivian Cheruiyot ran the most savvy race on the women’s side the race. Hitting 1:09 at the halfway, she was 1:41 behind Mary Keitany and 1:18 behind Tirunesh Dibaba. By 25 kilometers, it was down to 1:11 and by 35 kilometers, it was down to 12 seconds.
Vivian Cheruiyot has a wonderful smile. A hard run race, with a huge PB of 2:18:31 showed the we now have three woman who can challenge the 2:17s, and perhaps, dare I say, the 2:16s?
