Tom Walsh 22.06 big win
TIMARU (NZL, Mar 14): World indoor shot champion Tom Walsh produced a winning 22.06m in his hometown Super Shot meeting to beat his own New Zealand residents’ record. His second-round effort put him clear in front of arguably the best ever field shot field assembled in New Zealand. Canada’s Tim Nedow was second with 20.77m, while Australia’s Damien Birkinhead was third with 20.75m and Ryan Whiting fourth with 20.54m. Jamaican O´Dayne Richards with 20.49 ended fifth ahead of Poland´s record holder Konrad Bukowiecki 20.19. Canada’s Brittany Crew won the women’s event with 17.89 ahead of another Canadian Taryn Suttie 16.99. After the win Walsh told stuff.co.nz: “The world record’s 23.12m and if I don’t get there soon then someone else will so that’s my goal.”
