Katerina Johnson-Thompson won her first global title at the 2018 World Indoor Birmingham, March 1-4, 2018, in the pentathlon. KJT is one of the darlings of the British athletics scene. Getting her first global title takes a bit of pressure off this fine athlete. In Birmingham, Katerina Johnson-Thompson competed well, and won by fifty points.

After her 60 meter hurdles, run in 8.43, KJT was in sixth with 1048 points. In the the HJ, where she cleared 1.91 meters, in 1,119 points, with total 2 event score of 2,167, moving KJT into first place. With a shot put of 12.68 meters, for an event score of 706, total score of 2,873 for second. In the fourth event, LJ, KJT cleared 6.50 meters, for a score of 1007, for a score of 3,880 (keeping first).
The 800 meters was close, with two seconds separating the medalists. Katerina Johnson Thompson ran 2:16.63 for an event score of 870 points and a total score of 4,750, winning by fifty points.
