On Friday, at the press conference, I interviewed Wesley Kirui. Wesley was happy with his fitness and told @runblogrun that he hoped to win the LA Marathon once again.

In 2016, Welsley, running for Skechers Performance, won the LA Marathon in 2016, the first year of Skecher’s sponsorship. In 2018, after a very long battle with Gebresadik Adihana and Elisha Barno. The last five miles were fast, a 4:38, then, a 4:44, then, a 4:47 and it was down to Wesley and Gebresadik, who were running, neck and neck. Wesley Kirui was pushing the pace, looking back and Gebresadik Adihana, who looked relaxed and in control.
Then, about 24.5 miles, the break happened, Wesley Kirui got a meter, then a few more, as Adihana was in distress. Adihana did not give up, he battled back, as Kirui had built up a fifteen second lead, which Adihana cut back to ten.
A smiling Wesley Kirui, winning his second LA Marathon title, leading 20,000 plus marathon finishers across the finish line in Santa Monica. Wesley Kirui achieved his dream, a second win in the City of Angels.
