Mergia vs M. Dibaba
DUBAI (UAE): Three-time winner Aselefech Mergia and former world champion Mare Dibaba will head the women’s field for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on January 26. Ethiopia’s Mergia is the fastest in the field with her PB of 2:19:31, while compatriot Dibaba, the 2015 world champion, has clocked 2:19:52. They will face defending champion Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia in the bid for the $200,000 first prize. “We are excited to have two huge talents leading the women’s field,” said event director Peter Connerton. “Aselefech Mergia has won every time she has raced here, while Mare Dibaba has won World Championship and Olympic medals since finishing third in Dubai in 2012.”
