The 200 meters and 400 meters are races where the competitiion is high level, and if one decides to double, they have taken on a real task.
Wayde Van Niekerk won the 400 meters and took the silver in the 200 meters. That was a tough double that did not get the respect in London as many were talking about others who did not even complete the double.
In Wayde’s 200m presser, it was obvous that the South African felt he was not being respected. I concur.
Great athletes in the sprints are doing nearly impossible tasks. Most people can run a lap on a high school track. Few can run in 45 seconds. Fewer can run in 44 and a handful have run in 43 seconds!
It puts Michael Johnson’s 200m /400m double in new perspective.
Maurice Greene helps us appreciate the amazing runs we see in the sprints.
