ASICS Cross Freak 2 $85
Round two of the Cross Freak carries on the tradition established in its first round (and many versions of ASICS cross country spikes, spanning many decades).
The upper’s camouflage pattern over its entire surface with welded overlays, which are quite slick on their surface to shed mud. As is their purpose, they fit very snug with their spiked shoe last, also making them useful during the track season if budget is an issue. The midsole is a slender wedge of full-length foam which interlocks with the outersole. The outersole features a nobby, lugged surface with the addition of six spike receptacles for improved traction in sloppy conditions. The Cross Freak’s traction, durability, and bargain price make it a versatile choice.
