So, how do you write about Craig Virgin?
Growing up in Missouri in the early 1970s, I remember reading about this junior in high school from Illinois, who was a total stud. Interestingly enough, the first time I read about him was in the book shown in the video on the year 1973, featuring the high school lists. Craig was the top Illinois high schooler, and then, the finest high schooler in country his senior year.
In 1976, I watched freshman in college Craig Virgin run the 10,000 meters on the US Olympic Trials and made the Olympic team. In high school, Craig had broke Steve Prefontaine’s high school 2 mile record. Craig went on to make two more Olympic teams, run well over the marathon distance and win two World Cross Country titles.

Well, this past weekend, Craig Virgin was at Runners Re-United, a gathering of runners from the 1970s, organized by Ralph Serna, a fine runner himself, and one of the finest footwear designers in the business.
Enjoy the video, it is a lot of fun. More on Runners Re-United X to come!
