Chopra hopes for home gold
BHUBANESWAR (IND): World U20 champion Neeraj Chopra is among the leading home favourites in action at the Asian Championships which take place in Bhubaneswar from 6-9 July. Chopra has a season’s best of 85.63m but he will face tough opposition from Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Chao-Tsun, who has gone out to 86.92m this season. Other top Indian athletes in action include Vikas Gowda in the discus, Dutee Chand in the 100m and reigning champion Tintu Luka in the 800m. The Chinese are expected to do well in the jumps with Zhang Guowei (high jump), Huang Changzhou (long jump) and Li Ling (pole vault) expected to take the titles while on the track, top names in action include Qatar’s Femi Ogunode (100,200), the Philippines’ Eric Cray (400m hurdles) and Bahrain’s John Koech in the 3000m steeplechase.
