Kilty and Pozzi confirmed for Loughborough International
European champions Andrew Pozzi and Richard Kilty have both been added to the startlist for Sunday’sLoughborough International Athletics match.
Kilty had another stellar indoor season, defending his European 60m crown in Belgrade in March and will now look to transfer that speed to the 100m and 200m. With all eyes on the London 2017 World Athletics Championships this summer, the ‘Teeside Tornado’, who boasts a 100m personal best of 10.01 from 2016, will be looking to get his outdoor season off to a flying start.
What’s more, Kilty’s fiancé DovilÄ— DzindzaletaitÄ— will also return to triple jump action following the birth of their son Richard junior last year. The Lithuanian is the reigning European U23 champion.
Pozzi, who celebrates his birthday today, took his first international title in Belgrade in a thrilling final. Taking on truly world class opposition, the 24 year old held his nerve after a number of false starts to edge out the reigning champion and Olympic fourth placer Pascal Martinot-Lagarde by 0.01 of a second.
Stepping up from the 60mH to the 110mH, the Loughborough University based hurdler will hope to build on his Rio 2016 performance this summer, having just missed out on a place in the final.
Also confirmed for #LIA2017 are male and female Great Britain 4x100m quartets, fresh from a relay camp in Portugal. They will add some real stardust to the programme, especially as the events will be held early in the programme, rather than in their traditional slot at the end of the day.
