Kovacs gets 22.57 WL and PB
TUCSON (USA, May 18): World shot put champion Joe Kovacs after passing the indoor season in his second meet of outdoors showed tremendous shape. At Tucson Elite Classic an throwing meet he had three throws measured and all over 22 meters. He started with superb personal best, World lead and 8th best performer ever 22.57. The best result in shot put since 2003. He also registered 22.10 in second attempt and 22.26 in fourth. “It was great to start 2017 with a PR of 22.57m on the first throw #Thankful,” he said on his twitter. His duel with Olympic winner Ryan Crouser will be one of the highlights of Prefontaine Classic next weekend. In women shot personal best for US Monique Riddick 18.55 and second Canadian Brittany Crew 18.47 national record ahead of Brittany Smith 18.33. Mexican David Ocampo won javelin with 80.29 PB and in women discus Gia Lewis-Smallwood 62.91 ahead of Jamaican Tara-Sue Barnett 61.66 PB. Personal bests also for Canadian Jillian Weir 72.50 in hammer and U20 discus thrower Turner Washington 69.45 with 1.62 kg implement.
