Kenenisa Bekele is the world record holder at 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. No one has come near those records in thirteen years! But, Kenenisa is not satisfied. He wants to become the first man to hold the 5000 meters, 10,000 meters and marathon World Records. If he can do it here, he will do it in London.
Jos Hermans, the manager of Kenenisa Bekele (and Eliud Kipchoge, and Ghirmay Ghebrselassie and Haile Gebrselassie), told media yesterday that Kenenisa is at ’90 percent’. Last year, Kenenisa ran a 2:06 off six weeks-yep, six weeks of training. Even with a dodgy calf, Bekele should be the best in the field.
Then, our friend, Feyisa Lelisa. Feyisa was the youngest man under 2:06 when he began racing. He has won Chicago, Rotterdam, and Dublin. Feyisa also has won bronze at the 2011 World Champs in Daegu and silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Can Feyisa Lelisa battle Kenenisa Bekele? Lelisa is always a contender, so it could be very interesting, and remember, Lelisa has run some very fast half marathons! We are only a few hours away from finding out!
