Marathon in Monza early May
MILANO (ITA): Runnersworld informs that on May 6 (that would be exactly 63 years to the day after Roger Bannister became the first person to run a sub-4:00 mile) or May 7, three runners might attempt to run the first sub-two-hour marathon. Lelisa Desisa, Zersenay Tadese, and Eliud Kipchoge already tested the Formula One circuit in Monza in March and they will try early May for the full distance. The race will be transmitted via internet but without spectators.
RunBlogRun opines: The Breaking 2 project is all Nike. With the coverage from Runners World, Outside, Competitor, among others, the project has gone from dismissal to global interest. While I believe Nike can do and will do exactly what it wants, I am curious, but am more disappointed not to see Eliud Kipchoge dueing with Kenenisa Bekele at London, I have to admit. The May 6 or 7 date is a homage to Sir Roger Bannister and the first sub four minute mile. Difference? Sir Roger Bannister was involved in an actual race, but I have digressed. Nice coverage by RW, Outside and Competitor, and it has brought more interest to running.
