Van Niekerk hopes for fast 300 m
OSTRAVA (CZE): Olympic and world 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk will headline the 300m in Ostrava on 28 June (IAAF World Challenge), informs organisers. “I’ve always enjoyed racing in Ostrava and I look forward to competing here again. The 300m event is a great way to gauge my fitness in the early stages of a long season, as it will give me a good indication of my potential in the 200m and 400m sprints this year. I hope for a good run and, as always, a great time as well,” he said. Van Niekerk is the third fastest runner in history over the distance with a 31.03 clocking in Kingston last year. The meet record is held by Usain Bolt at 30.97 from 2010. He will face triple European Indoor champion Pavel Maslak in the race which will be organised as Istvan Gyulai Memorial. Ticket sales for the meet are going on a top note, only 3500 tickets are remaining currently nearly three months ahead of the event.
RunBlogRun Opines: Wayde Van Niekerk is the finest 400 meter runner of all times. The Ostrava meeting continues to build just an absolutely amazing series of races for this year’s event on June 28. It will be fun to see how fast Wayde can run over 300 meters.
