Aries Merritt is the 2012 Olympic gold medalist. After the Olympics, Aries set the current WR for the 110 meter hurdles. In 2015, after the Beijing World Championships, Aries Merritt had two kidney surgeries, including a kidney transplant.
Somehow, and with doctor’s suggesting he sit the year out, Aries Merritt competed in the Olympic Trials, but did not make the team. His family and his doctor reminded him that he got everything out of his body that he could, so he should be happy.
In this wide ranging interview, the always quotable Aries Merritt spoke about training, where his fitness is at, why he will race all year and his desire to compete through Tokyo.
Aries Merritt is one of our favorite athletes: gutty, focused, and always a great interview. We look forward to seeing him race the 60 meter hurdles (and get a seasons’ best) at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in about twelve hours!
