BERLIN (GER, Feb 10): European long jump champion Ivana Spanovic opened her season by going out to a world-leading 6.87m twice at the ISTAF Indoor Berlin on the road to the European Indoor Championships on home soil in Belgrade. Heptathlete Claudia Salman-Rath went out to an indoor PB of 6.71m before improving in the sixth round to an outright PB of 6.76m ahead of Alexandra Wester (6.71m). Piotr Lisek cleared 5.86m to win the pole vault before three attempts at 6.05m to defeat Olympic champion Thiago Braz (5.70m) with Raphael Holzdeppe third on countback. Cindy Roleder set a PB of 7.85 in the 60m hurdles final (7.90 heat) with Pamela Dutkiewicz making it a German one-two, clocking a PB of 7.88 in the heat and final, ahead of Sally Pearson (7.91), Christina Manning (7.93) and Alina Talay (7.94). James Dasaolu won the men’s 60m in 6.57 from Kim Collins in 6.59 while Olesya Povh won the women’s 60m flat in 7.14 from Marie Jose Ta Lou 7.19. Balazs Baji won the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.60. In rare discus Christoph Harting achieved 63.84 ahead of Martin Wierig 62.67.
