OSAKA (JPN, Jan 29): Risa Shigetomo regained her Osaka Marathon title, clocking 2:24:22 (72:10/72:12) to put herself in contention for a place on the Japanese team for the World Championships in London. Shigetomo lead a Japanese clean sweep with early leader Misato Horie (2:25:44) and Hanae Tanaka (2:26:19) finishing second and third respectively. USA’s Serena Burla was a surprise fourth in a 2:26:53 PB with pre-race favourite Shitaye Eshete fifth (2:28:36). Poland’s Iwona Lewandowska was the top European finisher in seventh (2:29:37).
RunBlogRun opines: Nice to see Serena Burla run so well on Sunday, January 29. Burla races all over the world, and is a gutty runner. After a few tough years, great to see her running well once again.
