Ben True is one of the finest middle distance runners in America. That is why 2016 was so tough for him, and it has taken him so time to digest the lessons learnt from the year. Ben True is fit now, and per Coach Tim Broe, needs to race. So, the Beijing World Champs fifth placer in the 5000 meters is running a few times indoors.
On Saturday, January 28, Ben finished fourth in the NB mile, in 3:57.31, taking his best shot at Matt Centrowitz. Matt made him work for his PB. “That’s what you get racing the best miler in the world, ” noted a smiling Ben True. That last lap took just under 56 seconds for Centro as he battled True, Vincent Kibet and Jake Wightman.
Ben will be racing at Millrose in the stacked two mile, on February 11. Here are some pithy comments, all in sixty seconds on my second Instagram video of the post event. Thanks for Ben’s patience and sense of humor!
