HAVANA (CUB): Alberto Juantorena has called for a renewed investment in sport in Cuba in the build-up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, informs Prensa Latina. “I am quite sure that it is necessary to strengthen the base, increase mass sport and provide sport equipment, which is very important,” he said. “Cuba, has many and great possibilities to rescue what we used to have in terms of sports. But, sometimes, people minimise our achievements, being among the top 20 countries in the world and winning five gold medals in the last Olympic Games is a tremendous success.” Juantorena won a 400/800m double at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and is currently the president of the Cuban Athletics Federation and IAAF Vice President.
