John Trautmann made the Olympic team in the 5000 meters in 1992 in dramatic fashion. It was also the beginning of his Odyssey with injuries. Overweight and out of shape, John Trautmann began to cross train, and, as he lost weight, added running to the regimen, and with the help of Coach Frank Gagliano, ran a Masters record Indoor Mile just a few years ago. Now, his energy is focused as assistant coach with ‘Gags’ (and Tom Nohilly as the other assistant) for the HOKA ONE ONE New Jersey New York Track Club. Here is the first part of the interview series we did with John. We thank John Trautmann for his time and the support of Mike McMannus of HOKA ONE ONE.
