GAINESVILLE (USA, Mar 31): World and Olympic winner at 400 m LaShawn Merritt is early in top shape with World leading 20.23 (+0.7) over 200 m at the Florida Relays. Merritt was not competing in the indoor season. Behind him fast Brazilians Aldemir Junior 20.47 and Bruno de Barros 20.51. Canadian Gavin Smellie won another race in life-time best 20.43 (+1.6). In the 400 m Mike Berry clocked 45.51 ahead of Hugo de Souza of Brazil 45.76. In the 400 m hurdles former World champion Kerron Clement posted 50.17 ahead of Puertorico´s Eric Alejandro 50.18. In the women 200 m Tiffany Townsend beat Jamaican star Veronica Campbell-Brown 22.38 to 22.46, but wind-aided +3.7. Third Shalonda Solomon 22.58 over Cambrya Jones 22.76 and Francena McCorory 23.04. In another race legal personal best 22.86 (+0.3) by Kianna Gray. Claudia Francis won the 400 m hurdles in 56.43 PB and Ebony Eutsey 400 m in 52.08 ahead of British short sprinter Desiree Henry who improved to 52.25.
