Glasgow for Euroindoors 2019
AMSTERDAM (NED): Glasgow has won the right to stage the 2019 European Indoor Championships. The decision for the 35th edition of the event was made at the European Athletics Council’s 146th official meeting in Amsterdam this morning. Glasgow won nine votes compared to Torun’s six. Apeldoorn had one vote and Minsk no vote. “In Glasgow, we have chosen a fantastic host. I attended the Glasgow 1990 European Athletics Indoor Championships, and I am looking forward to being there in 2019 for what will be my final major event as European Athletics President,” said Svein Arne Hansen. The Council also decided that GyÅ‘r, Hungary, will host the 2018 European U18 Championships and Rieti, Italy, will stage the 2020 edition.
Larry Eder Responds: I have to say, the European Athletics Association should be commended on how they are building for the future. Social media, coverage of events all reaching out to 14-25 year olds, an focus on building participation.
