This is the first of Conversations with Larry, as I discuss with you, our readers, various topics or challenges within our sport. Today, we are chatting about the changing need for race expos. The local race is one thing, and I must say, I truly enjoyed a recent expo (without a race, I might add) sponsored by Santa Rosa Fleet Feet. Nice booths, fun talks and workouts for the nearly 500 people who attended. Compare that to the Boston Marathon Expo, which is a lesson in claustrophobia. The small race Expo, the trade Expo are a whole different matter. I am concerned about the amazing pricing on large race Expos and wonder when major brands wonder if their value justifies their cost.
