LONDON (GBR): Aselefech Mergia will be looking to regain her London Marathon title on Sunday after claiming the title in 2010 but only after the subsequent disqualification of Russians Liliya Shobukhova and Inga Abitova, informs Athletics Weekly. “Of course I can look back six years and say if I had won the race then, that would have made a bit of difference, maybe in terms of bonuses that I would have got from my sponsor or other opportunities if I had been recognised as the winner six years ago. But that is not the most important thing: the most important thing is that people who are cheating are taken out of the sport. My general position on doping is that I am completely against doping. Doping should just not be part of the sport,” she said. Mergia trains in the same training group as Atsede Baysa and Tirfi Tsegaye, who finished first and second in Boston on Monday.
