IAAF CONTINENTAL CUP NEWS
MARRAKECH (MAR): There will be nearly $3 million in prize money on offer at the Continental Cup which will take place this weekend. A total of US $2,900,000 will be paid by the IAAF. Individual winners will receive $30,000, while the prize money for 2nd to 8th is as follows; 15,000, 10,000, 7000, 5000, 3000, 2000, 1000. $30,000 will be awarded to the winning relay teams while 20,000, 10,000 and 8000 will go to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placing teams respectively. US $50,000 will be awarded for a world record. The prize structure means that every athlete competing will win an amount of USD.
MARRAKECH (MAR): From 32 fresh IAAF Diamond League winners in total 22 are expected to compete in Marrakech. Adding to it also two IAAF Hammer Challenge winners (Pars and Wlodarczyk) makes the list more impressive. Americas Team has 10 DR winners (3 men Edward, Merritt and Tinsley and 7 women Campbell-Brown, Williams-Mills, Harper-Nelson, Spencer, Murer, Bartoletta and Ibarguen). Africa offers 6 such names (4 men Amos, Ndiku, Birech and Mokoena but he in triple and two women Sum and Ayalew), Europe has in team 4 Diamond Trophy winners (Lavillenie, Kuchina, Perkovic and Spotakova) and Asia/Pacific team two with Mutaz Barshim and Valerie Adams.
MARRAKECH (MAR): The Local Organising Committee of Marrakech 2014 and the IAAF will hold a press conference on Friday at 12pm at the press center of the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
MARRAKECH (MAR): Initially on the track in Split 2010 Europe was the Cup winner but unfortunately afterwards due to doping cases results were modified and as the first winner of this competition was confirmed the team of Americas. Their final revised score was 422.5 points over Europe 417, Africa 293 and Asia-Pacific 290.5.
