Birell Prague Grand Prix:

Geoffrey Ronoh added yet another star name to the list of his vanquished rivals as the Kenyan beat compatriot Geoffrey Mutai and broke the course record in the Birell Prague Grand Prix 10k on Saturday evening (September 6). Ronoh smashed the course record by 16 seconds to win in 27:28, the second fastest time in the world this year. Mutai, preparing for his New York Marathon title defence in November, finished four seconds behind while Nicholas Bor completed the Kenyan clean sweep with third place in 27:38. In warm, humid conditions Ronoh, who beat the marathon world record holder Wilson Kipsang in the Olomouc Half Marathon on June 21, drew away from Mutai with under two kilometres remaining.
Correti Jepkoech was an emphatic winner of the women’s race and the 20-year-old Kenyan also broke the course record, clocking 31:05, the third fastest time in the world this year, to take 55 seconds off the old mark. Her compatriot Esther Chemtai was distant runner-up in 31:51 and Flomena Chepchirchir finished third in 32:30. 5,500 runners from 54 countries took part in the 19th edition of the Birell Prague Grand Prix which is an IAAF Gold Label race, the top category in road racing.
