GATLIN REMAINS UNBEATEN
ROVERETO (ITA, Sep 2): Justin Gatlin remains unbeaten this year as he won the 100 m at the jubilee 50th Palio della Quercia meet in Rovereto (EA Premium). But against -0.4 he did not achieve the meet record (10.04) with final time of 10.07 clearly over Bahamian Warren Fraser 10.26 and Jamaican Julian Forte 10.27. Home fans celebrated young Federica del Buono when she won the 1500 m in new personal best 4:05.32 ahead of Stacy Ndiwa of Kenya 4:06.10 PB and Ukrainian Anna Mishchenko 4:06.63. In the 400 m European champion Libania Grenot finished second with 51.30 beaten only by Stephanie McPherson of Jamaica 50.69 but ahead of another top Jamaican Christine Day 51.66, Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain 51.70 and other European medalists Olha Zemlyak 51.80 and Indira Terrero 51.97. Between them French Floria Guei 51.82. Former World record holder Dayron Robles won the hurdles in his fastest of the year 13.29 (+1.2) with Greek Kostadinos Douvalidis good second with 13.39. On the women side also good 11.16 (+0.7) by US Barbara Pierre in the 100 m over Carrie Russell 11.29 and Euro medalist Ashleigh Nelson 11.30. Lavonne Idlette of Dominican Republic won the hurdles in 12.98 (-1.7) and Renny Quow from Trinidad posted solid 45.13 in the 400 m ahead of Jamaican Rusheen McDonald 45.47. Saudi Arabian Abdulaziz Mohammed beat in the 800 m 1:47.12 European silver winner Artur Kuciapski of Poland 1:47.68. Kenyan Cornelius Kangogo who was pacemaker last week in Zurich won the 5000 m in 13:24.01 over Zurich 2nd placer Muktar Edris 13:25.35. In six technical events Oksana Okuneva cleared 194 to top the high jump (second Alessia Trost 191), Hungarian Anita Marton 18.32 shot put, Russian Ilya Mudrov 561 pole vault, Brazilian Mauro Vinicius long jump 808 (+3.5, second Briton Chris Tomlinson 795 +1.7) and Czech Jakub Vadlejch with last attempt the javelin 79.58. Close duel in women long jump as Agia Grabuste of Latvia had 675 (+2.6) as Swiss Irene Pusterla 675 (+0.8). Second best was 673 (+4.4) to 669 (+2.5), best legal of Grabuste was 663 (+0.9).
