Andrei Krauchanka of Belarus cleared 222 in the decathlon high jump to equal the best decathlon high jump mark set at a European Championships. He shares the record with Germany’s Christian Schenk who set the mark in 1990 on his way to bronze. Germany’s David Storl is the fifth person to won the European shot title twice; Beyer, Briesenick, Varju and Huseby being the others. Great Britain’s Jo Pavey became the fourth woman to win multiple medals in the women’s 10 000m. All four (Ribeiro, O’Sullivan, Abitova, Pavey) have won gold and silver. Pavey’s winning time of 32:22.39 is the slowest winning time in the history of the European Championships, the previous slowest was 31:46.83 from 1990. Germany’s Robert Harting threw 67.01 to set the second longest qualifying mark in Euro Champs history; the longest mark is 67.20, set by Wolfgang Schmidt of GDR in 1978, who went on to win the final. Jimmy Vicaut ran the fastest ever first round time at European
Champs with 10.06 (-0.1).

ZURICH (SUI): Italian triple jumper Daniele Greco ruptured his left achilles tendon during his first attempt in qualification. He will undergo surgery in the next few days. The 25 year old European Indoor champion had a test only a week ago in Rome on his Achilles, where it was discovered he had some inflammation, but nothing serious. He said that he did not feel any pain during the warm up.
ZURICH (SUI): Belgium’s Jonathan Borlée struggled to qualify out of the men’s 400m heats and admitted afterwards; “I’ve never had such a bad feeling in a major championship.” He cannot find enough strength for the final straight; “As usual, it went up to 250 to 300 meters. And then suddenly nothing worked.”
ZURICH (SUI): European Cross Country champion Sophie Duarte dropped out of the women’s 10 000m final holding her hamstring.
ZURICH (SUI): The two 10 000 m medalists Jo Pavey and Leila Traby have together four children, the British winner son (soon 5) and daughter (soon 1) and French bronze medalist two daughters (3 and 8). Pavey also confirmed she will run the 5000 m.
ZURICH (SUI): Poland´s double Olympic winner Tomasz Majewski confirmed he will continue in his career until 2016, but most probably not longer. Asked about European Championships 2018 in Berlin he said for sure no more.
ZURICH (SUI): David Storl is the only one shot putter in the history having two World and two European titles now. Borja Vivas won for Spain first ever throwing medal at the European Championships male or female.
ZURICH (SUI): German long distance runner Arne Gabius decided to cancel his participation in the 10 000 m and will concentrate only at the 5000 m where he will defend the silver medal from 2012.
