SHOBUKHOVA WILL APPEAL
MOSCOW (RUS): Russian marathon record holder Liliya Shobukhova will appeal her ban to CAS. The 35-year-old runner was banned from January 24, 2013 till January 23, 2015 because of abnormal blood measures. All her results from October 9, 2009 were cancelled, including three victories at Chicago marathons and one London marathon triumph including World Marathon Majors wins. “We have prepared all documents to CAS already and will ask not only to revise the terms of the ban but to abrogate her disqualification at all,” said her coach and husband Ihor Shobukhov to Sport-Express newspaper.

(Editor’s note: All athletes are entitled to basic protection under international law. If Ms. Shubokhova has her appeal upheld, she will have to pay back the monies won from her marathon wins and her WMM titles. Fascinating to me, that her agent has already noted that no matter what, Ms. Shobukhova will not return her winnings.)
