Mary Cain enthralled fifteen to twenty media professionals on Thursday, June 12 at the Hyatt Grand Central Station. Relaxed, articulate, and honest, Mary Cain disarms most media because she really does not have to say anything but the truth.
She is running the 800 meters this weekend because her and Alberto Salazar, her coach, knows that she needs some speed work and really is not ready to run with the super elites. She is not, as someone noted on another blog, avoiding competition. Most athletes find the events that are best for them and build up to racing.
I do not find a disingenuous bone in her body. Mary Cain is pretty much, you get what you are looking for: a honest senior in high school, who is a bit of a precocious runner, considering her first year in college and how her vocation/avocation, will affect that journey to college.
