How does one say, with a straight face, that the 2014 adidas Grand Prix NYC is their best meet EVER? Consider that in 2008, Usain Bolt broke the WR for the 100 meters on this track. Consider that Jenn Suhr became ONLY the second woman to break sixteen feet in the pole vault on this track!

Well, on Saturday afternoon, in a period of four minutes, Mutasz Essa Barshim cleared 2.42 meters (7-11 1/4), Valerie Adams won her 50th shot put competition, and then, less than four minutes after Barshim’s clearance, Bohdan Bondarenko cleared 2.42 meters as well!

As the meet announcer said, ” Never in the history of the high jump, have two jumpers ever cleared 2.42 meters in the same competition.”

Larry Eder has had a 52-year involvement in the sport of athletics. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now, journalist and blogger. His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the U.S. version of Spikes magazine. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun.
