LONDON (GBR, May 10): British Athletics informs that Jo Pavey and Andy Vernon showed their strength as they defeated the opposition, and the wind, to be crowned British 10 000 m Champions at the Highgate Night of the 10,000m PBs. Despite the conditions, Pavey clocked 32:11.04, well inside the European Championships qualifying time of 33:00, meaning she has booked her spot on the plane to Zurich this August. French Sophie Duarte took second on the night 32:36.32 (her track debut at the distance), with Beth Potter running the best race of her career to move through for third, and British Championship silver with 32:45.69. European CC Champion Fionualla Britton was fourth 32:57.49 ahead of Iwona Lewandowska of Poland 33:08.95. Men winner Vernon clocked 28:26.59 ahead of Chris Thompson 28:49.77 and Jonathan Mellor 28:52.90.
