Nike Zoom Fly Named Best Value Shoe in Fortius Media Group, LLC, 2014 Spring Shoe Review
SAN JOSE – Nike’s Zoom Fly earned top honors as best value shoe in the Fortius Media Group, LLC, 2014 Spring Shoe Review.
“Runners are very lucky. There is very little equipment that is needed. For the past two decades, the partners of Fortius Media Group have relied on Cregg Weinmann, the runningproductreviews.com footwear reviewer, and his team, to suggest the finest running footwear available. Our reviews are now available daily, via social media, on digital and in print. The Spring and Fall Shoe Reviews have always been our largest, although Cregg reviews on a monthly basis around the year. As always, we suggest that the five million runners and walkers who read our reviews make their purchases in their local running store. Read globally, buy locally is our mantra,” noted Larry Eder, the publishing director of the Fortius Media Group, LLC.
The shoe review process starts by matching shoes to the footstrike, motion and foot shape of wear testers. Wear testers report on seven key performance characteristics periodically during the testing process. Using a software system that calculates all data gathered from testers, a top shoe in each category is chosen. The software system was developed by Cregg Weinmann, the Fortius Media Group’s footwear reviewer.
“There is nearly a perfect shoe available for everyone, if you take the time to understand your footstrike and running needs, do the research and consult with your local running store,” said Weinmann.
A seemingly simple design and low price make the Nike Zoom Fly a bit of a sleeper, but don’t be fooled. An upper with open mesh in the forefoot and closed mesh in the mid- and rearfoot are joined with no-sew overlays. A bunion window and synthetic leather toe cap in the toebox provide a good fit while retaining shape. Combining Phylon and Cushlon, the midsole is molded to provide support and protection. The forefoot has a Zoom Air bag and 8mm geometry. The outersole is BRS 1000 carbon rubber in the heel and mini-waffles provide traction up front. The Zoom Fly is an effective performance shoe for faster runs or long races and is an outstanding value at $90, earning it honors as best value shoe (Weinmann 2014).
“Secure fit and a nice, low-to-the-ground feel. Protective and nimble. This has been a go-to shoe for fast running,” said one wear tester when describing the Nike Zoom Fly.
