NAIROBI (KEN, Jul 13): Not too many surprises at the Kenyan World Trials. In 800 m Anthony Chemut won in 1:44.33 in a close sprint over Ferguson Rotich in 1:44.38 and new name Jeremiah Mutai in 1:44.59. For the world team wildcard for David Rudisha (if healthy) is confirmed. One of the favorites Timothy Kitum was 7th 1:46.24. In 800 m according to prediction win for Eunice Sum in 1:59.3 over Janeth Jepkosgei in 1:59.7 and third place for Winny Chebet in 2:00.0. The 1500 m was topped by marvellous-trio Silas Kiplagat (3:33.7), Asbel Kiprop (3:33.8) and Nickson Chepseba (3:33.9). Selection also for fourth Bethwell Birgen 3:34.2. No surprise in women 1500 m with Hellen Obiri to win in 4:06.91 over the young talent Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon in 4:07.00 and former olympic champ Nancy Langat in4:07.23. In steeple men Conseslus Kipruto took an easy win in 8:13.5 over Abel Mutai in 8:14.0, Brimin Kipruto in 8:14.5 and Jairus Kipchoge in 8:16.3. Only sixth place in 8:26.70 for Olympic champ Ezekiel Kemboi who jogged last 600 m and also beaten to 12th Paul Kipsiele Koech (8:53.3). But Kemboi and Koech were selected so out remains former olympic winner Brimin Kipruto. Milcah Chemos won the women steeple in 9:38.6 over Gladys Kipkemoi in 9:39.7, Hyvin Jepkemoi9:39.5 and world leader Lydia Chepkurui 9:42.4. In the 5000 m top three places for Isaiah Koech (13:35.12), Thomas Longosiwa (13:36.82) and Edwin Soi (13:39.49). Fourth spot in the team for John Kipkoech over Augustine Choge despite the fact that Choge was fourth13:41.59 and Kipkoech fifth 13:44.13. Mercy Cherono confirmed her shape when winning women 5000 m in 15:58.39 sprinting over Viola Kibiwott 15:59.20 and Margareth Muriuki Wangari in 16:01.88. The top surprise was the dominance of Japan based runners in the 10 000 m. First position for Bidan Karoki in 27:31.61 over Paul Tanui in 27:32.76 and Kenneth Kipkemoi in 27:41.28. While in women 10k surprisingly out Florence Kiplagat and Linet Masai (6th 34:10.02). Win for Gladys Cherono in 33:43.03 at sprint over CC world champ Emily Chebet in 33:43.78 and Sally Kaptich in 33:45.81. Julius Yego achieved in javelin new national record 82.09. Good quality in the men 400 m hurdles, winning Emir Bekric of Serbia new national record 48.76. 49.19 for second Briton Sebastian Rodger and third Ramus Magi of Estonia (for him a NR). French Simon Krauss won the hurdles 13.55 (-0.4) with Dutch Koen Smet second 13.58 PB. Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius won the discus 62.40 and Belarus hammer gold for Zahar Makhroshka 74.63. On the women side top mark from young Italian Alessa Trost with 198 national U23 mark over Airine Palsyte of Lithuania 192. Also top marks in the pole vault as Russian Angelina Zhuk-Krasnova improved to 470, PB for second Anzhelika Sidorova 460 and third Angelica Bengtsson of Sweden 455. Jodie Williams won the 200 m in 22.92 (-0.5) PB ahead of French Lenora Guion-Firmin 22.96 PB as she earlier won the 400 m in 51.68 also PB. She achieved all that within one hour. German Gesa-Felicitas Krause won the steeple 9:38.91, in 100 m hurdles Isabelle Pedersen of Norway 13.12 (-0.1) and in the 400 m hurdles personal best for winning Vera Rudakova from Russia 55.92. Briton Sophie Hitchon got the hammer 70.72 and her team-mate Katarina Johnson-Thompson leads the heptathlon with 3761 points.

Hungary scored hammer win for Reka Gyuratz 73.20 meet record (3 kg). Also in girls pole vault Robeilys Peinado from Venezuela confirmed the favorite role with 425 win. Surprises in boys high jump as Woo Sang-Hyeok from Korea won with 220 over Bai Jiaxu of China 218 and Jamaican Christoff Bryan 216. Cuban clear win in triple for Lazaro Martinez 16.63 (+1.8) PB and meet record. After bronze in hammer now gold for Australian Matt Denny in discus with 67.54 2013 youth leader and PB. Second German Henning Prufer 65.62. South African Helene Swanepoel won the girls 400 m hurdles 58.08, in the boys race Marvin Williams from USA 50.39. Ethiopian Tigist Gashaw confirmed the predictions and won the 1500 m in4:14.25. Kenyan Alfred Kipketer won the boys 800 m in 1:48.01. German Celina Leffler won the heptathlon with 5747 points with British favorite Morgan Lake without a medal after disastrous long jump below 5 meters. USA were impressive in girls medley relay women with a superb WYL of 2:07.13 in front of Japan with 2:08.39 PB and Canada in 2:08.52. WYL also in boys medley relay with 1:52.18 from Japan over USA in 1:52.19 and Qatar 1:52.47. After boys 200 m semifinals it is clear that for first time USA will not have boys in both 100 m and 200 m finals at this championships. Diack praises Bubka
DONETSK (UKR): IAAF President Lamine Diack has praised Sergey Bubka on the eve of the World Youth Athletics Championships in Donetsk – where the Ukrainian IAAF vice-president started his stellar pole vaulting career. ”
Sergey Bubka is a fantastic athlete, and now very a successful administrator,” Diack told a press conference at the place where in 1993 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Presidential candidate recorded the indoor height of 615 which remains a world record today. “I had no doubt that he and his team will successfully manage the IAAF Youth World Championships. For me Sergey is a symbol of this city which is an expert in managing great sport events,” Diack said. LJUBLJANA (SLO, Jul 13): Fast sprints at the 8th Sustersic and Cvetan Memorial meet. US Tiffany Townsend won the 200 m in fast PB 22.48 (-0.1), earlier she also topped the 100 m in 11.30 (-0.5). In both events second Charonda Williams 11.39 and 22.71. In men 100 m Marvin Bracy clocked 10.20 (-0.5) over Jeff Demps 10.21 and Jamaican Sheldon Mitchell 10.25. Jamaican Edino Steele first won the 400 m in 46.48 and then surprised with new PB in the 200 m 20.56 (+1.7) over another Jamaican Adolphus Nevers 20.58 and Jan Zumer of Slovenia who clocked PB and Moscow standard 20.59. Dusty Jonas and Piotr Sleboda cleared 223 in the high jump. In women events home wins for Marina Tomic in the hurdles 13.06 (-0.6), Snezana Rodic triple 14.00 (+1.5) and Tina Sutej pole vault 435.
