Croatian Ana Simic cleared 196 personal best in the high jump with Bulgarian Mirela Demireva second 194. Women hurdles saw Queen Harrison in 12.71 (+0.2) beating Olympic medalist Kellie Wells 12.74. In good 400 m hurdles duel Dalilah Muhammad beat in 54.87 Jamaican champion Ristanana Tracey 54.94 and Italian Yadisleidy Pedroso 55.32. Greek Kostadinos Baniotis after 233 attacked his 235 PB height in the high jump, second Dusty Jonas 228. Africans produced sub 8:20 steeple with Jacob Araptany of Uganda getting 8:16.43 over Clement Kemboi 8:17.18 PB and Elijah Chelimo 8:19.07. US women hammer win

In discus girls Chinese favorite Yuchen Xie won with last attempt 56.34 meet record beating German Claudine Vita 52.59 PB and another Chinese Xinyun Liang 51.50. Germany scored impressive shot put boys double with gold for Patrick Muller 22.02 (5 kg) career best over Henning Prufer 21.94 PB while third place was for surprisingly for Egyptian Mohamed Magdi Hamza 20.58. Walking gold medals for Russia
TAMPERE (FIN, Jul 10): The European U23 Championships started on Wednesday with walking events and registered expected Russian wins. Pyotr Bogatyrev clocked 1:21:31 in the men 20 km (he was leading from 6 km) ahead of another Russian Aleksandr Ivanov 1:21:34 PB, bronze for German Hagen Pohle 1:25:04 with some minutes away. In the women race Svetlana Vasilyeva won in 1:30:07 as she took the pace at the 14 km. Silver for Ukrainian Lyudmyla Olyanovska 1:30:37 and bronze for Italian Antonella Palmisano 1:30:59 PB ahead of Russians Natalya Serezhkina 1:31:50 and Nina Ochotnikova 1:33:20.
Herculis prepares for great 100 m
MONACO (MON): Next IAAF Diamond League meet the Herculis 2013 in Monaco (July 19) confirmed as top highlights men 100 m with Tyson Gay against Christophe Lemaitre and Justin Gatlin. Olympic winner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is in the 200 m. Women high jump will have Anna Chicherova, Blanka Vlasic and Brigetta Barrett fighting for two meters. Special also the 100 m hurdles not only with olympic winner Sally Pearson, but also world leader Brianna Rollins and British star Jessica Ennis-Hill. Triple jump will see Christian Taylor against Teddy Tamgho, in the pole vault Renaud Lavillenie is the star. The only non Diamond League event will be men 1500 m.

OTTAWA (CAN): Athletics Canada announced the hiring of Peter Eriksson as Olympic and Paralympic Head Coach. Eriksson, from Ottawa, officially begins in the role August 1.
BIRMINGHAM (GBR): British miler Hannah England’s experience of the highs and lows of a sportsman’s lot has given the world 1500 m silver medallist an appreciation of being injury-free as she looks to earn her spot on the Great Britain team for the World Championships in Moscow. While England still managed to compete in London, she did not make it out of the semi-finals. This year, the Birmingham-based athlete has enjoyed fourth and eighth-placed
finishes in Rome and Eugene respectively as well as coming fifth and seventh in Gateshead and Birmingham. She will be among the top local stars competing at the World Trials this weekend. She will be joined by the likes of Lisa Dobriskey, Laura Weightman and Laura Weir.
MONACO (MON): The IAA
F announced that with one month to go until the IAAF World Championships in Moscow the pinnacle competition of the IAAF World Athletics Series has extended its global reach. Broadcasting agreements are in place covering more territories than ever before in the history of the IAAF World Championships that will ensure coverage of Moscow 2013 in over 200 territories worldwide. The 14th edition of the championships will be the largest global sporting event of the year, with it anticipated that the nine days of action will reach a cumulative audience of more than five billion TV viewers.
LONDON (GBR): Phillips Idowu, Britain’s former world champion triple jumper, has announced he will miss next month’s World Championships in Moscow and will be taking an unspecified break from athletics. The 34-year-old has competed only once since failing to reach the final at the London 2012 Games, for which his preparation was undermined by injury. Informs insidethegames.
LAUSANNE (SUI): Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has revealed plans for an “in-depth” study into the disciplines on the Olympic programme that could see sports losing events in place of others as early as in 2020. “We are bound by other things in the [Olympic] Charter that says there can only be 28 sports, 10,500 athletes and approximately 300 events,” he told reporters on a conference call. We have written to the [international] federations with a request to make proposals that are quota neutral. This means federations can make a proposal for a new discipline but the premise is that another discipline will be taken out of the Games so as not to increase the number of athletes or the number of medals,” says Rogge.
BATON ROUGE (USA): After more than 20 years in service of the LSU Track & Field program as both a student-athlete and coach, it was announced that Jamaican Mark Elliott has resigned his position as assistant head coach of the program and has been named the new director of track and field at Clemson University.
HARARE (ZIM): Zimbabwe´s top athlete jumper-sprinter Ngoni Makusha suffered a setback after he retired from the long jump event at the Paris Diamond League meet. Local media are informing. The 26-year-old 2012 World Championships bronze medallist and national 100m and long jump record holder retired after completing just one of the scheduled six rounds of the competition at the Stade de France. In an interview with NewsDay Sport, Makusha, who is yet to qualify for the World Championships, said he pulled out of the competition after realising he could further aggravate the injury. “I withdrew because my quadriceps tightened up on me during the competition. I just didn’t want to push through the pain and injure the leg more. I’m still working on qualifying for the world championships,” said Makusha.
BRUSSELS (BEL): Belgium can add decathlete Thomas Van der Plaetsen to it’s list of selected athletes for the world championships in Moscow. Van der Plaetsen managed the win at the Universiade and improved his personal best with a score of 8164 points. Earlier, decathlete Hans Van Alphen announced he will not compete in Moscow due to a foot injury he sustained earlier this year confirms sporza.be.
AMSTERDAM (NED): The Netherlands has confirmed it’s team for the European junior championships in Rieti and is sending 7 boys and 16 girls to the championship.
BOSTON (USA): Runnersworld.com informs that the Oscar-nominated screenwriters behind “The Fighter” have acquired the movie rights to a forthcoming book on the Boston Marathon bombings, Deadline Hollywood is reporting.
