California Track & Running News was established in 1977 as the guide to road running, track & field, race walking and marathoning in California. In 1998, Shooting Star Media combined California Track & Running News, Pacific Athlete and The Runners Schedule into one title. CTRN is available in print, digital, mobile and through social media.
With the support of Tim Murphy, who had just started RNR San Diego, California Track & Running News went state wide in 1999. With the support of John Mansoor from the Pacific Association, California Track & Running News negotiated a program with the four USATF associations in California and Northern Nevada, to be their official publication, also in 1999.
With 15,000 paid subscribers, and 10,000 free distribution (through 75 running stores, health clubs in California) in print and, for the past seven years, a digital edition, CTRN continues to support the grass roots sport of road running. Caltrack.com, established in 1999, provides our readers, through digital and social media, several options for the CTRN running fan to find their info.
At California Track & Running News, our goal is simple: give the runner, track athlete, and endurance athlete or fan reliable and consistent content to enhance their running and their relationship with the their local running community. We achieve that goal due to our availability on mobile, android, iphone, ipad via FB, website, twitter and digital publications, as well as our print publication, now, in its 39th year.
The CTRN team consists of Christine Johnson, editor, Alex Larsen, design&production, Kristen Cerer, design, Marg Sumner, proofreader, Chuck Bartlett, web director, and Larry Eder, publisher, along with our sales person, David Parham. It was primarily Christine and Alex who have launched the redesign.
This, dear readers, is a work in progress. We look forward to your comments!
