New England vs. New YorkRivalry Renewed in Relay Match-ups
BOSTON (Jan. 24, 2013) – The Patriots and the Giants will be watching the Super Bowl on television but the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will keep alive the sporting rivalry between Boston and New York with featured New England vs. New York boys’ and girls’ relays on February 2, organizers have announced. And true to the sport’s roots, the country’s top high school indoor milers will once again descend on Boston to try to claim a victory in what is the top event of its kind each year.
New York and New England diehard sports fans lamenting their NFL and MLB teams’ early exit from the playoffs will see a club boys’ 4 x 800 meters and girls’ 4 x 400 meters consisting of athletes from the top high school teams from both regions in a scored event. Firebirds TC, a club team of athletes from Kellenberg HS, leads the boys’ entries with a time of 7:51.72 already this season. New England’s top squad, Lowell TC, hasn’t posted a standout time just yet but the team of Lowell HS athletes won the 2012 Massachusetts Division 1 Cross Country Championships. Also in the field, Brookline TC has the fastest time in the state this season.
