Arizona All-American Stephen Sambu to transition to Road Racing
OAKLAND- Last week, during his professional running debut, 9-Time NCAA All-American, Stephen Sambu, shattered the course record at the Silicon Valley 5k. With a time of 13:28. Five days prior to this race, he finished runner-up in Louisville at the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Sambu, a native of Eldoret, Kenya majored in Agricultural Business Economics with a minor in business Administration. He was a multiple NJCAA Champion while at Rend Lake Community College in Illinois. His running success continued at the University of Arizona under the direction of Coach, James Li. Sambu finished as a Nine-Time All- American and won the 2011 Pac-10, 10,000 meter and 2012 Pac-12 Titles.
Sambu became the second fastest Indoor Collegiate 5000 meter runner while competing at the 2012 Millrose Games. He ran a personal best time of 13:13.74. His 10,000 meter personal best is 27:28.64
“I really want to fulfill my dreams to be a successful road racer and marathon runner. I am so excited to work with, Karen Locke,” said Sambu.
