AMOS 1:43.79 IN THE 800 M
BARCELONA (ESP, Jul 15): During last day of World Junior Championships it started with discus win for German Anna Ruh 62.38 ahead of shot winner Shanice Craft 60.42 and US Shelbi Vaughan 60.07. Italian Alessia Trost as only one cleared 191 and won the girls high jump over surprise from Seychelles Lissa Labiche 188 (senior NR) and only bronze for Russian favorite Mariya Kuchina (also 188). US Morgan Snow won the 100 m hurdles in 13.38 against -2.4 wind. Second position for Noemi Zbaren of Switzerland 13.42 and third for Russian Yekaterina Bleskina 13.43. First World Junior leader 2012 of the day came in triple Jump where Pedro Pichardo from Cuba won with 16.79 PB beating Russian Artyom Primak 16.60 and Bahamian Latario Collie-Minns 16.37. Steeple was a Kenyan affair with strong pace from the beginning. Conseslus Kipruto clocked meet record 8:06.10, fourth place in junior all-time lists. Silver medal for Gilbert Kiplangat Kirui 8:19.94 and bronze for Hicham Siqueni from Morocco 8:30.14. Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon ran excellent 1500 m in another meet record 4:04.96. Silver for Serbian Amela Terzic 4:07.54 senior NR and bronze for Ethiopian Senbere Teferi (17) 4:08.28. Special mention to sixth Mary Cain of USA, her 4:11.01 lifetime best and it is also new US High School record as she is only 16 years old. Men•s 800 m was a great demonstration by Botswana•s Nijel Amos in superb meet record 1:43.79. Then Kenyans followed Timothy Kitum 1:44.56 and Edwin Melly (17) 1:44.79 PB. Fourth Wesley Vazquez from Puertorico improved CAC junior mark to 1:45.29. The girls 4x400m was another World Junior leader 2012 for the USA quartet in 3:30.01 with Rucker-Ekpone-Baisden-Spencer. Second place for Jamaica in 3:32.97 and third Russia in 3:36.43. Also in boys 4×400 m win for USA in 3:03.99 with an excellent line-up Downing-Bailey-Okezie-Hall. Behind them second was Poland in new national junior record 3:05.05 and third another suprise Trinidad and Tobago in 3:06.32.
USA DOMINATED
BARCELONA (ESP): USA dominated the World Junior Championships with 20 medals (9-4-7) ahead of Kenya 4-4-5 and Ethiopia 3-3-1. Fourth in medals Cuba 3-0-1 and best European country Germany 2-4-0 ahead of Russia 2-3-3. In total 43 countries won medals. In points USA 188 over Kenya 112 followed by Germany 95, Russia 85, Great Britain 71 and Ethiopia 70. In summary 74 countries had athletes in top 8.

HALDENSLEBEN (GER, Jul 15): 2009 World Champion Caster Semenya won the International meet here with 2:01.20 but just 0.01 over Canadian Diane Cummins 2:01.21 and Rosibel Garcia of Colombia 2:01.27. Fast women 3000 m by Azemra Gebru of Ethiopia 8:44.41 ahead of Buze Diriba both Barcelona fresh medalists 8:44.62 and steepler Almaz Ayana 8:49.64. Mariely Sanchez of Dominican Republic won the 100 m (11.49, +0.2), Cuban world medalist Yareli Barrios the discus 64.21 over Australian Dani Samuels 62.78. In men events Kenyan Benson Seurei is on a winning note, 3:36.05 in the 1500 m ahead of Soresa Jana of Ethiopia 3:36.74. Nigerian Peter Emelieze was the fastest in 10.29 (+1.1) beating Jamaican Kimmari Roach 10.30 and improved German Matthias Lindner also 10.30. US hurdles win for David Payne 13.53 (-1.4) ahead of Ty Akins 13.57. Japanese Hiroki Ogita cleared 561 in the pole vault, Russian Pavel Shalin 775 (+2.2, legal 772) in the long jump and Ukrainian Roman Avramenko 81.40 in the javelin. Brazil won both relays in 39.05 and 43.33.
WARSZAWA (POL, Jul 14): Qatari record holder Mutaz Essa Barshim cleared at a local meet 233 in the high jump. It is his season best.
EINDHOVEN (NED, Jul 15): Kamerbeek Games meet registered Gregory Sedoc winning the 110 m hurdles in 13.74 (-1.6) over African Champion Lehann Fourie 13.81. Joeri Moerman clocked 46.37 in the 400 m and Erik Cadee got 65.40 in the discus. Versatile Dafne Schippers won the hurdles in 13.63 (-0.4).
OTTAWA (CAN, Jul 14): Michael LeBlanc won the 100 m in 10.27 (+1.3) at Ontario Championships. Canada olympic selection tested the relay and A team got 38.48 and B team 38.71. Solid also 11.36 (+0.8) in the women 100 m by Mianna Griffiths.
WARSZAWA (POL, Jul 14-15): Heptathlete Karolina Tyminska tested her shape during Poland Youth Championships and confirmed her olympic participation with 13.55 at the hurdles, 169 in the high jump and 14.63 in the shot put. On Sunday she achieved 41.17 in javelin what was only 15 cm behind her lifetime best.
SREMSKA MITROVICA (SRB, Jul 15): Tatjana Jelaca improved the Serbian javelin record to 60.89 at the National U23 Championships. Her own former top national mark was 60.35 when winning the European Junior title in 2009.
BEIJING (CHN, Jul 15): Discus world champion Li Yanfeng got 64.39 at a local meet.
BEOGRAD (SRB, Jul 14): At Balkan Youth Championships Turkish Esra Gaz won the girls javelin with good 54.02. In boys 110 m hurdles (91.4) Krasimir Stoychev of Bulgaria clocked 13.65 (+1.2).

LAGOS (NGR): Thisdaylive.com informs that three Nigerian athletes already in London preparing for the Olympics have tested positive for banned drugs. Although the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), declined to name the affected athletes yesterday, independent sources informed this day that shot putter Vivian Chukwuemeka, sprinter Lauretta Ozoh (improved this year to 11.19 and 22.73) and 400 m runner Regina George were those who samples tested positive to banned substances. The informed National Sports Commission source also revealed that already, the leadership of Team Nigeria camp in Surrey, England has been informed and ordered to decamp the affected athletes immediately. If confirmed for Chukwuemeka and Ozoh it would be already their second band and both will face lifetime bans.
STOCKHOLM (SWE): This weekend it is exactly 100 years ago that the decathlon in it’s actual setting was officially carried out. It happened at the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, where the legendary Jim Thorpe took the victory.
