Ashton Eaton, on June 22 and June 23, put ten performances together, winning seven of
the ten events, to break the world record in the decathlon. The former world record, held by Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic, for eleven years, was no more, with Eaton’s score of 9,039 points.
The crowd of 21,000 will remember Ashton Eaton hauling over the last 300 meters, running a 4:14.47 for the 1,500 meters, which gave him his first world record.
Eaton was greeted by Dan O’Brien, 1996 Olympic Gold medalist and former AR in decathlon, as well as Bruce Jenner, Milt Campbell, Bill Toomey, Rafer Johnson and two sons of Jim Thorpe.
In honor of Ashton Eaton’s tremendous performance, the Shoe Addicts sent us this video on his performance!
