The Virgin London Marathon in 2012 had two tremendous races upfront, and 37,000 other stories behind them.
In the Shoe Addicts video, we salute the races beginnings: John Dinsley and the late Chris Brasher, telling stories in a pub, and considering running the New York City marathon. From 7,000 plus runners in 1981, the first year, to 37,000 plus starters in 2012, the race has grown with the sport.
Under the watchful eye of Race Director David Bedford, the race has developed into the global race by which others are judged. In 2012, Joint race directors David Bedford and Hugh Brasher showed how the baton can be passed to another generation of race directors.
Congrats to all involved in the 2012 Virgin London Marathon, and many, many more!
