FRANCE: 28 men and 18 women will compete for France. Top headliners
sprinter Christophe Lemaitre, pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and walker
Yohan Diniz. Both runners involved in the Monaco row Mehdi Baala and
Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad were selected too. European champion Myriam
Soumare is scheduled to double at 100 m and 200 m. Main absentees due

NETHERLANDS: 20 athletes will compete for Netherlands. Coming from
Netherland Antilles top sprinter Churandy Martina aims for finals. Super
talent Dafne Schippers will concentrate on the 200 m, she is European
junior champion in heptathlon this year and world junior heptathlon gold
medalist from last year. The team – men – 100 m: Martina, 200 m:

ALGERIA: Ten athletes will represent Algeria. As usual strong distances,
final is expected also from triple jump veteran Baya Rahouli (was
finalist already at 1999 Worlds in Seville). The team – men – 110mH:
Lazib, 800 m: Brahimi, 1500 m: Boukensa, Makhloufi, 5000 m: Aboud,
Mihout, TJ: Temacini, dec: Bouraada, women – 800 m: Bouras, TJ: Rahouli
FINLAND: Thirteen athletes were selected from Finland. Main hopes are
all three javelin throwers, former world champion Tero Pitkamaki,
national champion Ari Mannio and new name Sampo Lehtola. The team – men –
200 m: Astrand, SC: Keskisalo, HJ: Torro, PV: Bergius, HT: Karjalainen,
JT: Lehtola, Mannio, Pitkamaki, 50 kmw: Kinnunen, Kempas. Women – SC:
Eriksson, PV: Nikkanen, HT: Korpela.
BARBADOS: Reigning World 110 m hurdles champion Ryan Brathwaite will
lead a five member Barbados team to Daegu. Former World Youth Octathlon
champion Shane Brathwaite will also compete in the sprint hurdles while
Andrew Hinds and Ramon Gittens will contest the men’s 100m. National
women’s record holder Kierre Beckles is the lone female and will run in
the women’s 100m hurdles.
HUNGARY: Hammer thrower Krisztian Pars (second in WL, but leader
Zagorniy is not in Daegu) and discus thrower Zoltan Kovago (current
world leader) and the top names from Hungarian 14 athletes strong team
(9 men and 5 women). The team – men – 800 m: Kazi, SC: Minczer, 110mH:
Kiss, Baji, SP: Kurthy, DT: Fazekas, Kovago, HT: Pars, Nemeth. Women –
10 000 m: Papp, SP: Marton, HT: Orban, hep: Farkas, 20kmw: Madarasz
RUSSIA: Head-coach Valentin Maslakov confirmed that high jump title
defender Yaroslav Rybakov will finally compete in Daegu. Due to injury
the latest withdrawal by female sprinter Yulia Chermoshanskaya.
Federation chief Valentin Balakhnichev said he is expecting 3-4 gold
medals. Steeple national champion Ildar Minshin was not selected, but
will run at the World University Games in China.
ITALY: 800 m runner Elisa Cusma will not take part in Daegu as she
did not fulfill the necessary conditions. She was given additional time
to get the required times but could not achieve it.

KINGSTON (JAM): TrackAlerts informs that TVJ, in their Sunday night
newscast, reported that Steve Mullings will have his hearing into the
Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) on Wednesday (Aug 17). According to the
report, the Kent Gammon chaired Jamaica Anti Doping Commission (JADCO)
Disciplinary Panel, is scheduled to hear augment from Mullings’ team at
the Institute. However, Mullings can not be named in Jamaica’s team to
the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea because the deadline to
submit names for the August 27 to September 4 Championships, is August
15.
LILBURN (USA): USATF Georgia Association had their inaugural class
inducted into the Georgia Track and Field Hall of fame. Hall of fame
inductees included most notably Edwin Moses, Roger Kingdom, Gwen
Torrence and Spec Towns. Additionally yearly awards were given out for
2011. Athlete advisory awards were given out by 400m hurdles world
record holder Kevin Young to shot putter Adam Nelson and high jumper
Chaunte Howard-Lowe. Track and Field Man of the Year award went to agent
Paul Doyle.
PARIS (FRA): Steeple runner Mohammed Belabbas who was double nationality
opted to compete for Algeria instead of France. But since both national
federations did not find an agreement on the change, he will not
compete in Daegu despite having the standard 8:17.87 from Barcelona, he
was also fourth at French Championships in Albi. New discussion about
his participation at London Games will be opened at a later stage.
RESULTS
CHULA VISTA (USA, Aug 14): Geman men and US women won the Jim Thorpe Cup
combined events match. European guests had 38 870 total score in
decathlon over USA 38 006, in women heptathlon USA 17 611 over Germany
17 115. Individual decathlon win for Simon Hechler of Germany 8058
points (personal best) ahead of Joe Detmer 7846. In heptathlon Bettie
Wade scored 6052 over German Claudia Rath 5858. World champion Trey
Hardee achieved during second day 49.34 in discus and cleared 501 in the
pole vault. Ashton Eaton competed only in discus and achieved excellent
PB of 47.36. Hyleas Fountain was seen in women javelin (43.56).
PORT OF SPAIN (TRI, Aug 14): In last events at TT Championships home
team clocked 39.71 in the 4×100 m (Sorrillo, D. Brown, L. Gordon,
Callender) and women of St. Kitts 44.88.
