PARIS (FRA): Meeting Areva 2011, the 8th stop of Samsung
Diamond League will offer special clashes this year. The 200 m will see Usain
Bolt in his first race from now (it is expected but not confirmed he will not
race at Jamaican Trials) against European champion Christophe Lemaitre and
young Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade. It will be the last event of the programme.
High hurdles will have first this years duel of US record holder David Oliver
and world record holder Dayron Robles. Jeremy Wariner is scheduled to run the
400 m with European leader Jonathan Borlee, hurdles world leader LJ Van Zyl and
likely to compete is also Oscar Pistorius. The 1500 m is having another first
top duel of the year, Moroccan Amine Laalou with olympic gold medalist Asbel
Kiprop. Men steeple could be something special as the organisers are
negotiating with top European (and French) duo Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad with
Boubdallah Tahri, also under discussion are top Kenyans Paul Kipsiele Koech and
reigning world champion Ezekiel Kemboi. Long jump will be the chance for Teddy
Tamgho as his special event is not in the programme with Irving Saladino and
Dwight Phillips. Another home star is Renaud Laviillenie in pole vault with
German Malte Mohr as main rival. On the new Mondo track Veronica Campbell-Brown
will run the 100 m against Kerron Stewart and Myriam Soumare. Top field as
usual at 800 m with last two world champions Janet Jepkosgei and Caster Semenya
with Jenny Meadows and home miler Hind Dehiba. World leader Lashina Demus is
scheduled for 400 m hurdles against reigning world champion Melaine Walker.
Nadezhda Ostapchuk and Barbora Spotakova are the women throws headliners in
shot and javelin. With a month to go
until the event over 15,000 tickets have already been sold, which is considerably
more than at the same time last year. The goal is 50 000. Organizers are
informing in a release.
6 CANDIDATES FOR 4 VP POSITIONS
MONTE CARLO (MON): IAAF confirmed candidates for the
elections held at IAAF Congress before the World Championships in Daegu (Aug
23-25). As it was known by some time current President Lamine Diack will stand
for another four year term unopposed. For four Vice Presidents seats six
candidates are announced. All current Sergey Bubka, Sebastian Coe, Bob Hersh
and Dahlan Al-Hamad added with two current council members Canadian Abby
Hoffman and Kenyan Isaiah Kiplagat. Interesting three names for Honorary
treasurer as the current Jean Poczobut is not planning to continue. They are
two current council members Russian Valentin Balakhnichev, Spanish Jose Maria
Odriozola with Czech Karel Pilny, who is EA Vice President. Ten candidates are
bidding for 6 female individual members seats in the council. Current Pauline
Davis-Thompson of Bahamas, Nawal El Moutawakel of Morocco, Abby Hoffman and
Anna Riccardi of Italy. New names bidding are Sylvia Barlag of Netherlands,
Claire Chehab from Lebanon, Ireland´s former distance runner Sonia O´Sullivan,
Syrian former heptathlon world champion Ghada Shouaa, legendary Poland runner
Irena Szewinska and Beserat Terefe of Ethiopia. For remaining 9 individual
members seats 32 candidates are listed
including the 10 already mentioned women. Then current members Dahlan Al-Hamad,
Valentin Balakhnichev, Helmut Digel, Alberto Juantorena, Ilkka Kanerva, Isaiah
Kiplagat, Neville McCook, Bob Hersh, Cesar Moreno, Jose Maria Odriozola, Jung
Ki-Park and Katsuyuki Tanaka are 11. Remaining candidates are Ahmad Al Kamali
of UAE, Zeidan Alawin from Jordan, Khaled Amara of Tunisia, French Bernard
Amsalem, Chinese Du Zhaocai, Frankie Fredericks of Nambia, Marton Gyulai from
Hungary, Victor Lopez of Puertorico, Australian Brian Roe and Weng Fei Tang of
Singapur. The final composition of the council is then completed by Area
Representatives. The only candidate for Technical Commitee chairman is current
head Jorge Salcedo of Portugal. Three new candidates for Women´s Committee
(replacing Ilse Bechthold of Germany) are Claire Chehab of Lebanon, Esther
Fittko from Germany and Ghada Shouaa of Syria. Current head of Race Walking Committee
Maurizio Damilano is going to have two other candidates bidding for his place
Robert Bowman of USA and multiple olympic winner Robert Korzeniowski from
Poland. The chair for Cross Country Committee will be elected from four names
as the current chair Otto Klappert ends his activities. Carlos Cardoso of
Portugal, David Okeyo from Kenya, Massimo Magnani of Italy and Saad Alhiyasat
of Jordan. The only candidate for Masters Committee chair is its current head
Mexican Cesar Moreno.
RUSSIAN WALKING TEAM FOR DAEGU
SARANSK (RUS): After national walking championships the
Russian composition for Deagu is clear. All-Sport informs about it based on
report from deputy head coach Aleksey Melnikov. All selected walker are coming
from Mordovia and are coached by legendary Viktor Chegin. In the men 20 km
Valeriy Borchin is the title defender, Stanislav Yemelyanov and Vladimir
Kanaykin qualified from European Cup and Sergey Morozov is added as national
champion. In the 50 km Sergey Kirdyapkin has the wild card as title defender
from Berlin, Denis Nizhegorodov and Igor Yerokhin won the selection at European
Cup and fourth member is fresh national champion Sergey Bakulin. In the women
20 km the same situation with Olga Kaniskina as world champion 2009, Vera
Sokolova and Anisya Kirdyapkina from Olhao and Tatyana Mineyeva as national
gold medalist from the weekend. Training camps under Chegin leadership are now
planned for all together in Saransk and in the altitude of Kislovodsk.
TOP THROWING DUO
WARSZAWA (POL): Poland announced its team for the SPAR
European Team Championships in Stockholm. Top names are throwing stars Tomasz
Majewski and Piotr Malachowski. Unfortunately women hammer world champion Anita
Wlodarczyk is still not ready to compete. Big points are expected also from
Adam Kszczot at 800 m. Women middle distances runners Angelika Cichocka (800
m), Sylwia Ejdys (1500 m), Lidia Chojecka (3000 m), Wioletta Frankiewicz (5000
m) are rated high. World champion Anna Rogowska is expected to score in pole
vault nicely. Improved sprinter Dariusz Kuc (last weekend 10.15) should get
good points. Hurdler Artur Noga returns from injury, strong pole vaulter is
Lukasz Michalski, good season so far also for javelin thrower Igor Janik and as
usual strong relays on men behalf should contribute valuable points.

BRUSSELS (BEL) : European indoor 60m hurdles bronze
medalist Adrien Deghelt has put an immediate end to his 2011 outdoor season.
The Belgian athlete suffers from a stress fracture to the hip and needs to rest
inform Belgian media.
LONDON (GBR): London marathon director David Bedford who
was present at the funeral of Sammy Wanjiru announced that the World Marathon
Majors throphy will carry Wanjiru’s name.
AMSTERDAM (NED): The Netherlands has added Patrick Van
Luijk to its European Team championships team for the 100m and 200m. Junior
sensations Dafne Schippers and Jamile Samuel will represent the country in the
women’s 100m and 200m.
HOBART (AUS): The city of Hobart, who had plans to bid
for the 2020 Olympic Games, are now set to launch a bid for the 2022 Summer
Youth Olympic Games. The Hobart Organising Group for Major Events (HOGME) are

RESULTS
BRAZZAVILLE (CGO, Jun 12): Sensational Cuban record 21.40
in shot put by Carlos Veliz highlighted thr 6th CAA Grand Prix in Congo. Second
Damian Kusiak from Poland also improved to 20.65 m. Another meet record in good
steeple by Kenyan Richard Mateelong 8:11.46 ahead of Jairus Kipchoge 8:13.06
and Elijah Chelimo 8:17.19. Another solid quality meet record by Bertukan
Feyisa of Ethiopia in women 1500 m 4:04.85 ahead of Asefa Meskerem 4:06.32.
Sprint duels saw Egyptian Amr Seoud achieving a double in 10.27 (-1.0) and
20.68 (-1.0). In both races second Ben Meite of Ivory Coast (10.32 and 20.77).
In dramatic short dash Nigerian co-favorites Obinna Metu and Peter Emelieze
were disqualified. Agnes Osazuwa scored women sprint double for Nigeria (11.55
and 23.65). Former world champion Amy Mbacke Thiam of Senegal won the 400 m in
53.10 and in men´s race Ofentse Mogawane from South Africa was timed with
45.67. Demma Daba of Ethiopia was the best in the 1500 m (3:38.48) and South African
Weda Theron at 400 m hurdles (56.39). Cuban Omar Cisneros dominated in men´s
400 m hurdles in 49.73. European win for Russian Tatyana Voykina in long jump
(642, -1.2).
KINGSTON (JAM, Jun 11-12): At National Junior
Championships Chris-Ann Gordon posted good quality 52.65 at 400 m. Expected
junior sprints were hampered by strong head-wind. Odail Todd won both titles
10.81 (-4.5) and 21.26. Odea Skeen the favorite was second 10.84 and 21.30.
ABRANTES (POR, Jun 12): At National Meet Ines Henriques
walked the 5000 m on the track with 22:00.57.
MELBOURNE (AUS, Jun 11): Australia’s team for the IAAF
World Youth championships in Lille have competed together as a team for the
first time. In Townsville the best performances went to William White (77.81)
in the javelin, Monica Brennan (11.98) over 100m and Jarrod Geddes (10.67) in
the 100m. The Athletes also took a series of development sessions that will
encourage their best performance at the World youth Championships with themes
including recovery, nutrition, smart travel practices and dealing with media
writes Australia Athletics.
