shape at Shukevich throwing meeting with European leading 21.63 m. His
series was excellent: 21.53-21.35-f-21.27-21.37-21.6
Only Canadian Dylan Armstrong is better in the world this year (21.72).
Impressive also second Pavel Lyzhyn (20.85). Solid hammer throws by
Yuriy Shayunov (77.10) and Alena Matoshka (70.62). Women shot put winner

A. KIPROP 1:46.5 BEFORE DOHA
MUMIAS
(KEN, Apr 29-30): Timothy Kiptum and Uganda’s Anney Nekesa triumphed in
the explosive 800m races as the curtains came down on the fourth leg of
the National Bank and Athletics Kenya weekend meeting staged at the
Mumias Sports Complex ground.
With both Olympic 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop (planning for Doha SDL
race) and former World junior 800m silver medalist Winnie Chebet opted
to skip the finals, Kiptum emerged from the shadows to exploit the
absence of the bigwigs in the men race to win in 1:48.2, which was far
slower compared to Kiprop’s 1:46.5 which he ran in his heat on Friday.
World Junior 800m bronze medalist Anney Nekesa proved her exploits to
keep up the pace with Kenyans and the world challenge was bearing fruit
as she won her second weekend meeting. Nekesa clocked 2:05.2. Organizers
decided to have three heats of 5000 m race with Abraham Kosogor, Dennis
Masai and John Mwangangi winning respectively. Kosongor was credited
with the fastest time of 13.49.2 with Soyekwa Kibet second in 13:51.7
while Philemon Yator was third in 13:54.0. Locals were treated to a new
race in 3000 m steeplechase as Lydia Chepkurui won comfortable in
10:07.9. In the 10 000 m race Elizabeth Rumokol was the winner in
33:50.1. The women 1500 m race was won by Regina Jerotich who triumphed
in 4:25.3. In the 1500 m race Benson Kiplagat won in 3:44.4 with Elijah
Kipchirchir arriving second in 3:45.1 while James Tenai was third in
3:45.4 ahead of Cornelius Ndiwa (3:45.6). John Cheuriyot Kemboi (27:29
last year track runner) won the 10 000 m in 29:22.2 ahead of John
Mwangangi 29:22.9 and Anthony Maritim 29:34.8. Informs Elias Makori.
SEMENYA THIRD WIN
STELLENBOSCH
(RSA, Apr 30): South African 800 m world champion Caster Semenya won
also her special event during second day of SA University Championships
in 2:02.52. Her next competitions will come end of May in Dakar and
early June in Eugene. She was undefeated in the 800 m during the
domestic season. Reigning African champion Thuso Mpuang won the 200 m in
20.56. Tshamano Setone tried for Daegu B-standard 13:27 at the 5000 m
but did not fulfill his mission with 13:30.59. In javelin duel Justine
Robbeson (58.21) beat African record holder Sunette Viljoen (57.23).

(JPN, Apr 30): Kenyan Wainaina Murigi clocked 9:18.64 in the women 3000
m during first day of Nittai University Distance meet.
BEDFORD (GBR, Apr 30): Jack Green,
the Moncton fifth placer in 400 m Hurdles set a personal best of 50.30
in his heat at the University championships. The 19-year old who trains
with European Champion Dai Greene is aiming for the podium at the
European U23 in Ostrava later in the summer.
BARCELONA (ESP, Apr 30): National high jump record holder Ruth Beitia opened with 185 at Clubs League.
ALCOBENDAS (ESP, Apr 30): Mercedes Chilla achieved good quality women javelin 60.62 at Clubs League.
L´HOSPITALET DE LLOBREGAT (ESP, Apr 30): Good discus in another Spanish
Clubs League match. Franck Casanas achieved 62.03. Mario Pestano in
another group in Nerja got 60.64.

(POL, Apr 30): Solid 1000 m races by Renata Plis 2:39.99 (world leader)
and former European indoor champion Pawel Czapiewski 2:24.92.

Cup winner Matej Toth achieved 39:24.8 at 10 000 m walk on the track. It
is his personal best. Second Anton Kucmin also fast 39:47.0.

hammer thrower Tomas Kruzliak achieved Tallinn standard with 6 kg hammer
71.52 at a local meet.

ZHUKOVSKIY (RUS, Apr 30): Yelena
Korobkina won the Asics Minimarathon in 32:50 at 10 km with Yelena
Zadorozhnaya after her CC title win the day before second (32:58). Men´s
10 km for Nikolay Chavkin 29:20 and veteran Vyacheslav Shabunin 29:45.
NASHVILLE (USA, Apr 30): More than 30
000 runners competed at the 12th annual Country Music Marathon & ½
Marathon on a cool morning that grew into a sunny Nashville afternoon.
Race website informs. Kenyan David Kellum won in 2:17:41. The women’s
race was a tight one, as Ruby Milena Riativa of Colombia and Nashville
local Laura Portis came down the final stretch just one minute apart.
Riativa would take first place, with a time of 2:50:00, and Portis came
through the finish line at LP Field a little over a minute later with an
official time of 2:51:24.
DALIAN (CHN, Apr 30): This year third
placer from Xiamen Marathon in women category Wang Jiali won the 25th
Dalian Marathon in new personal best 2:26:12 and became also national
champion. Nearly 15 000 runners competed.
LOUISVILLE (USA, Apr 30): 29-years
old Russian Veronika Lopatina won the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon
in 2:41:24. In case the sources are correct she equaled her marathon
best from winning Zagreb 2010. Peter Kemboi of Kenya was the best male
runner in 2:24:59.
BIRSTONAS (LTU, Apr 30): Marius
Ziukas of Lithuania improved his best to 1:22:55 at 20 km to win the
Mikeno Memorial. In the women 10 km Agnese Pastare of Latvia won in
46:28. Nearly 160 walkers from 5 countries competed.
GIJON (ESP, Apr 30): Rafael Iglesias
won Spanish Half-Marathon championships with good 1:02:40 ahead of
Kenyan James Moiben (1:03:12). Vanessa Veiga won the female title after
1:13:04.
ROTORUA (NZL, Apr 30): Dale Warrander
claimed his fourth New Zealand marathon title and a historic fifth
victory in the Rotorua Marathon in 2:23:01. Johanna Ottosson repeated
her women win of last year in 2:48:28. NZ Athletics website informs.
LAUSANNE (SUI, Apr 30): Kenyan
Dickson Kimaiyo won the 30th Lausanne 20 km road race in 1:00:14 what is
new course record. It was new course record. Second Alemayehu Wodajo
from Ethiopia in 1:00:39. In total 18 170 entries were registered what
is new record.
