Liu Xiang, in 2007, was the king of the hurdle world. His injury in 2008 has taken nearly three years for him to return to form. Obviously, Xiang wants to return. David Oliver was the world’s top hurdler in 2010. Two top hurdlers about to race over the 110 meter hurdles, one of the most difficult events in sport.
We shall see in about six weeks! For this sport to succeed and for the 2011 Samsung Diamond League to grow it is competition, competition, competition!
LIU VS OLIVER
SHANGHAI (CHN): Hurdles duel of Chinese superstar Liu Xiang and last
year world number one US David Oliver will highlight the second Samsung Diamond
League meet of the 2011. The Dunlop Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on May 15 will
see their duel. Last time they met outdoors was at the same meet in 2010 and
Oliver was a clear winner in 12.99 and Liu third (13.40). But the whole career
head-to-head outdoors speaks in favor of the Chinese star 7:1 (counting also
Osaka World Championships where Oliver did not advance into the finals). The pair met also this indoor season, in Karlsruhe: Oliver won
(7.40) and Liu was third (7.55). Another top star announced for the meet is
javelin world and european champion Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway. Sprinter Lao Yi is another local top name to
compete in the 100 m
