Teddy Tamgho thrilled the fans in Doha, Qatar last year when he jumped 17.90m in the triple jump, setting a new WR. This indoor season, Tamgo wants to push the record out past 18 meters! On the domestic news side, NB Indoor Grand Prix in Boston is developing well. Even with the rough weather this week, most of the athletes have made it to the Lenox hotel, headquarters of the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.

Tamgho thinks 18
LIEVIN (FRA): World indoor champion Teddy Tamgho is planning his first
international outing of the winter for the Lievin IAAF Indoor Permit on
February 8. He admitted his goal is to improve the triple jump world
indoor record 17.90 set last March in Doha. “The 18 metres is something
special, but this is my goal since 2009 and I think I can achieve it,”
he was quoted by French media. He jumped so far at local meetings 17.46
and 17.59 and with strong competition next Tuesday he thinks he can
achieve something special. In the field Sweden´s legend Christian
Olsson, Romanian Marian Oprea and Cubans Yoandri Betanzos, David Girat
and Alexis Copello.
Ukhov and Shkolina for Slovakia
BANSKA BYSTRICA (SVK): 18th edition of top Slovak indoor event special
high jump meet in central part of the country is again on February 9
promising high flights of best jumpers. Ivan Ukhov achieved at favorable
surface last year during Europa SC High Jump Meeting 238 cm what was
not only meet record but also the best mark of 2010 in or out. He is
going to return with high ambitions. Remains to see how tired he will be
after Russian Winter on Sunday. This will determine whether he will be
like in Hustopece after 238 attack the global mark of Javier Sotomayor.
Also in the field other Russians Aleksey Dmitrik, Sergey Mudrov and US
twice world indoor finalist Jesse Williams (he jumped here his PB 236 in
2009). Waiting on his chance will be Ukrainian Dmytro Demyanyuk who
already cleared 230 this season. Women field hopes to attack first two
metres of the season. Top contenders – Russian Svetlana Shkolina with
twice 196 already this season and Italian Antoniette Di Martino with 195
from Dessau. Specially Di Martino remembers well this meeting as 2007
here she jumped her first two metres. There will be new winner since
2006 as in past four times Blanka Vlasic who is passing this undercover
season was dominating. Her meet record of 205 will be most probably
remain untouched.
All defending clubs competing
SAN VITTORE (ITA): All title defending teams will compete on Sunday
at European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country in Italy. The event
will be part of the traditional 79th edition of Cinque Mulini race,
IAAF CC Permit. In the clubs competition 59 teams from 25 countries
will compete in four categories. Men of Bikila Toledo from Spain,
women from SC Moscow, junior men Fenerbahce from Turkey and junior
women Luch Moscow won last year in Bilbao and all are competing also
this weekend. In the Spanish winners for example European silver
medalist Ayad Lamdassem as the biggest star. Senior men will run 10
km women and junior boys 6 km and junior women 4 km at the special
course. It is located in the fields opposite to the famous mills,
inside the area called “Vallo”. Every lap is 2 km long, the right
length that makes athletes run more than once throughout Cozzi and
Meraviglia mills, and also gives the public the possibily to have a
complete view of the track and enjoy every single moment of the
competition from the natural tribunes of the “Vallo”. The European
Clubs event in cross country has a rich tradition, men started in
1962 and women were added in 1982.
Security top issue
MOSCOW (RUS): Security of all participants was one of the main issues
discussed during the first meeting of LOC for IAAF World Championships 2013 in Moscow. Under the leadership of LOC chairman
Aleksandr Zhukov another top theme was the question of host broadcasting
company which should be found soon. Current transport difficulties in
Moscow should be solved with special lines for the official vehicles.

personal best at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham this month and then

later this summer. First on the agenda for the 2003 100 m World Champion
is Birmingham on 19 February, where he’ll line up at the NIA against
local boy – European and Commonwealth silver medallist – Mark
Lewis-Francis and Olympic silver medallist Francis Obikwelu in the 60m,
before turning his attentions to the 200m and a match-up with World
Indoor medallist Mike Rodgers. Organizers are informing in a release.
Collins opens his indoor campaign this Sunday in Moscow at Russian
WÃnter meeting.
MADRID (ESP) : Spanish Eusebio Caceres aims at breaking the Spanish
national heptathlon record at the national combined events championships
this weekend. Caceres is the World junior silver medalist in the long
jump and previously scored 7396 points in the junior decathlon. The
Spanish record belongs to Ãlvaro Contreras who scored 5699 points in
2003.
WEINHEIM (GER): The high jump gala of Weinheim has announced European
Champion Alexandr Shustov to compete on February 9th. Also jumping are
former world champion Donald Thomas and world bronze indoor medalist
Dusty Jonas. Spanish record holder Ruth Beitia, Marina Aitova of
Kazakhstan and French record holder Melanie Melfort are highlighting the

ANNECY (FRA): Annecy has continued to strengthen its team for its bid to
host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics when appointing Britain’s
Nick Varley. Varley has been instrumental in the final presentation
that was so crucial in London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Games
and is a former journalist with The Guardian. The Britain will
contribute to Annecy’s international promotion and help develop its

Vault olympic medalist Yevgeniy Lukyanenko of Russia is the top name of
his event, US Jeff Porter running in shape of his life is competing in
the 60 m hurdles. French speciality will be again staged, indoor 400 m
hurdles. Cubans will rule the triple jump (without Teddy Tamgho) as
Betanzos, Copello and Girat are announced.
SHEFFIELD (GBR): Athletics Weekly informs that Jessica Ennis made a
last-minute decision to skip competing in the high jump this Sunday in
Sheffield, but rising pole vault star Holly Bleasdale has confirmed her
participation for the McCain City Indoor Challenge. The late decision of
Ennis has nothing to do with a possible injury, she will compete at UK
European Trials next weekend in Sheffield.
