(Probably one update a day through July 23, as I am on vacation….)
Some nice performances in Paris on Friday:
Powell, LeMaitre, Bolt, Blake, AREVA 100m, photo by PhotoRun.net.
Men
100 meters
Usain Bolt wins here in 9.84, with Asafa Powell in 9.91, Yohan Blake in 9.95. Christophe Lemaitre of France was fifth in 10.09. Bolt looked very good, and Powell is looking fast, but
tired. ( And I love watching Lemaitre, give him three months with an American sprint coach, and the kid would be running 9.88-9.90! He runs like a soccer player doing sprints.)
David Oliver en route to his 12.89 AR! AREVA Paris, photo by PhotoRun.net.
110 meter hurdles
David Oliver sets AR of 12.89 in the 110m hurdles! Ryan Wilson hurdles 13.12 for second!
400 meters
Jeremy Wariner wins in 44.49, world leader!
800 meters
Kaki
runs 1;43.50 for the win, but the fun was in back of him! Anthony
Wheating runs PB for 800 of 1:44.62 in his first pro race. Nick
Symmonds runs 1:44.93.
Steeplechase
Benjamin Kiprooto runs 8:00.90, Dan Huling runs 8:19 in tenth place.
Men’s pole vault
Renaud Lavillenie of France wins pole vault in 5.91m, with Derek Miles in second in 5.70m.
Javelin
Andreas Thorkildsen wins the javelin by 4 meters, with 87.50!
Women
200 meters
Allyson Felix runs 22.14 to take the win! Seven under 22.85, with Shalonda Solomon taking second in 22.55.
1,500 meters
Anna
Alminova of Russia has had a busy week, two races the day before, and a
win here in world leading 3:57.65. Christin Wurth-Thomas, off three
hours sleep runs PB of 3;59.59! Chahyd Hind of France runs 3;59.76 and
Lisa Dobriskey runs PB in fourth in 3:59.79! Shannon Rowbury was sixth in 4:01.30 and Anna Pierce had a rough one, taking fifteenth in
4:07.92.
5,000 meters
Vivian
Cheruiyot of Kenya wins here in 14:27.41, with Setnayehu Ejigu of
Ethiopia in second in 14:28.39, and Elvan Abeyleggesse of Turkey in
14;31.52. Meselmech Melkamu of Ethiopia in fourth in 14;32.73. Jessica
Augusto of Portugal had a smart 14:37.07.
Big News is Molly
Huddle in eighth in 14:51.84, who is now within fighting distance of Ar
for 5,000 meters. Lisa Koll, the NCAA double champion, broke fifteen
nicely here, running 14;55.74 for eleventh place.
High Jump
Blanka Vlasic cleared 2.02m for a victory over Chaunte Howard’s 2.00m.
Long Jump
Brittany Reese is kicking butt in the long jump, winning here in 6.79m over Naide Gomes
of Portugal, who jumped 6.73m. Yagiris Savigne (yes the triple jump goddess), was third in 6.73m as well.
Shot Put
Nadezeya Ostapchuk of Belarus took Valerie Vili of New Zealand, 20.78m to 20.13m.
Discus
Yarelis Barrios of Cuba wins here in 65.53m, with Nicoleto Grasu of Romania, who threw
63.78m.
