Shannon Rowbury is the bronze medalist from the Berlin World Champs at 1,500 meters. She is a force to be reckoned with over 800 meters, 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. Her subsequent interview, posted here, shows that the 5,000 meters at Stanford was probably her only sojourn over 12.5 laps this season.
Shannon Rowbury has other rivers to cross in 2010-2012.
Shannon’s 5,000 meters was an unusual race for her, running behind, actually five seconds down from the lead at 4,600 meters. Rowbury blasted by Shalane Flanagan (holder of US 5,000m/10,000m outdoors, and 3,000m/5,000m indoors), to win by four seconds, 15:00.51 to 15:04.52, with Amy Begley in tow, just over 15:05!
Rowbury’s talents are many: her focus, her ability to train and keep injuries down, her racing savvy, all gets better. U.S. distance running, on the women’s side, continues to shine!
